Feb 15, 2012 · Caltracs rattle when loosened up, and allow the axle to move around causing axle wrap, they only work when they have preload on them, while riding like crap. My long bars ride night and day better than my caltracs ever did on my LBZ. James' bars have proved this on 2 trucks of mine, with a negative angle bar, and a positive height bar. Our traction bars were developed to achieve specific goals to improve high power traction while staying within hard set NHRA parameters. To install the bellcrank end of the transfer rod you have to cut a couple spacers first. Measure the thickness of a rod end plus two washers. Then measure the inside distance between the two sides of the bellcrank at the mounting location. Subtract the width of the rod end and washers from this measurement and divide the answer by two.

The thing I'm having problems finding is whether or not the new front mount that comes with the Crites kit will cooperate with Caltrac monoleafs and traction bars. I know that moving the leafs in 3" per side won't have a positive effect on handling, but it's a drag car.

Oct 31, 2011 · The popping is actually pretty common on the '98-'00 club cabs and is the rear cab mounts, not the traction bars. As for adjusting them, it's all user preferance and will be different for every truck, but if you don't want them rattling, either set the pre-load on them, or take them off. You loosen the nuts and turn the center bar to adjust them.

As for the bottom half of the storage compartment, well, quite frankly, its a bitch. You gotta take apart the hinge (flips the console up to make a seat back), and remove it. Then you take all the screws off (you'll see 'em when you get it taken off), and then you can pry the plastic liner out.
Mar 04, 2015 · The old slapper bars I have are too short. I bought them years ago, 1970, from a local speed shop and they probably were not the correct bars for my car. At the time, I wouldn't have known. I trusted the speed shop sales guy to sell me the correct bars. My bar snubber is about four inches short of the front spring bushing or eye.
Put a bolt through the welded axle tab, through the rod end, and through the non-welded ale tab. Line everything up tight and tack the other axle tab on. Drop the bar and weld the tab. I welded both sides of this tab. Now put the bar back into position, bolted into the axle tabs, and mark/drill your 1/2 frame holes for the front brackets.
Sep 29, 2010 · i think CalTracs work like a four link, when the bar pushes forward, the triangle plate rotates down, and makes a solid assembly of the traction bar and the leaf spring. i don't think that controls wheel hop...i think that is a function of the springs/shocks. my drag shocks look WORE OUT and old and nasty, but my buddy says "oh them are still good"

I have a 1964 Fairlane. I want to improve handling and traction. Traction Master tells me their bars will fit with an Addco rear swaybar. Addco doesn't list a rear sway bar for my car, but Quickor does. The folks at Calvert Racing tell me they can make a set of CalTrac bars for my car and that they will also help in the corners.

May 06, 2007 · The shock controlled the resistance to the bottom bar pushing forward. In essence that which I did way back in the 1960;s is how the Slide-A-Link is supposed to work. The Cal-Trac does still allow the non binding leaf spring up and down movement, The Cal-Trac converts the forward spring push energy into a lever force becuase of the rocker design.
Summit/Lakewood/Holley should be ashamed of themselves for selling traction bars meant for a specific vehicle and they turn out to be too short and a bad fit. What are the best caltrac bars to buy, i really dont feel like modifying these slapper bars to fit and looking for something that just bolts in. Have like 4 or 5 leafs if that matters.

Caltracs for me, period...they work! Just looked at the Assassin bars, Mmmm... I don't think I would give you a nickel for a junk yard full of them. The front parts look flimsy and ground clearance will be an issue. Street vehicle around 500hp, Caltracs is all you want.

May 21, 2015 · Another option for traction bars are the caltrac type of bar. They work on a similar principal as the regular traction bars, but do so fir more adjust-ability and better use of the force to keep the spring from twisting.
Although there are similar systems available, like CE's "Slide-A-Link", and Caltracs, Mike Dyrlund does make and sell this one from his shop in Denmark. The links are made from 1" chromoly tubing with 14mm rod ends.
I also believe from my past experiences with the CalTracs that you need to be on perfectly level ground in order to make correct adjustments. And you need to buy a couple of 1-1/8" end wrenches and cut one end off so you can use them under the car. I have my new split mono springs installed.

X2 Also only torque the bolts when there is weight on the car and the preload on the Caltrac bars should be done with the drivers weight in the car. Preload the bar just when it gets ready to load then give it about a 1/4 turn or one flat turn.
They do make them for the trucks and from what I have seen the cost is the same as the car kits- $339 for the bars. They can also make the mono leaf to fit trucks as well. If you went the complete Caltrac route with the bars, mono leafs, and shocks you'd be around $1000.
